Description
The Imetric iCam 4D Photogrammetry System Scanner is revolutionizing the workflow for multi-implant restorations. This exciting new technology offers tremendous benefits not only for the patient but also for all parties involved, from the dentist to the production team. Specifically, the iCam 4D technology significantly reduces chair time, minimizes the number of visits required, and eliminates substantial hardware, personnel, and production costs. Moreover, it is the only technology that guarantees predictable and accurate results, regardless of the operator’s skill level.
What Is iCam4D?
The iCam4D system incorporates several advanced technologies that work together seamlessly to deliver fast, precise results. First and foremost, the handheld camera unit uses a combination of photogrammetric and structured light scanning techniques to collect 3D data. This is accomplished through four cameras and a projector, which collaborate to create accurate scans of the implant area.
Chairside Benefits
There are significant chairside benefits with the iCam4D system. For example, it offers large savings in valuable chair time, thanks to the easy placement of the iCamBodies and the rapid measurement process facilitated by the iCam4D. Additionally, it ensures a predictable outcome that is independent of the user’s skill level. This is especially beneficial in clinical settings, as it reduces the potential for errors that can occur due to variability in technique.
Furthermore, the iCam4D system eliminates the need for costly impression materials typically used for multi-implant procedures. As a result, no re-tries are necessary, as the first scan will provide a perfect fit, enhancing efficiency and patient satisfaction.
Lab Benefits
The iCam4D system also offers significant benefits for the lab. For instance, there is no longer a need to create models with gingiva masks or implant analogs. In addition, the complex task of scanning implant models is no longer required, further streamlining the process.

Imetric iCam 4D Photogrammetry System Technology
The iCam4D is a handheld camera unit that integrates four cameras and one projector. This combination of photogrammetric and structured light scanning techniques allows the system to capture 3D data with exceptional precision. In particular, it utilizes the iCamBodies, which are high-precision mechanical parts with a unique proprietary target arrangement. These targets help to determine the exact position and orientation of the implants. The computed position and orientation of a single implant is referred to as an “ICamPosition.”
The iCamBodies are replaced by Imetric at regular intervals to ensure they consistently meet the necessary precision standards. This ensures long-term accuracy and reliability in every scan.
Another integral component of the iCam4D system is the iCamRefs, which are similar to healing abutments. Notably, healing abutments can actually be used in place of the iCamRefs if desired. The smaller size of the iCamRefs makes it simpler to take an impression of the gingiva or scan both the iCamRefs and gingiva with an intraoral scanner. Subsequently, the software of the iCam4D allows users to transform the iCamPositions into the coordinate system of the gingiva using the iCamRefs. This process is accomplished with just a few simple clicks, enhancing ease of use and accuracy
